November-30-08

The Blue Hawks improved their winning streak to six games on Friday night; three of which were against Montana State University Northern, with a 61-53 victory during the Sam Milanovich Classic at Scott Gymnasium.

“After you play each other a few times, the score is going to be close,” DSU coach Guy Fridley said. “It’s going to be whoever is going to gut it out.”

The inside-out game was running smooth by Kia Herbel and Jennifer Marquez; junior transfers playing their first game at Scott Gym, the Blue Hawks found ways to get the job done.

Herbel was solid in the post and finished with 16 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Marquez was 3 of 5 from beyond the 3-point line and finished with 17 points and eight rebounds. Ashley Emmons scored 12 points and was 6 of 8 from the free-throw line.

“It just shows – it’s still early – but that we have a complete ball club,” Fridley said.

On Saturday night Rocky Mountain College squeaked by the Blue Hawks for a 64-53 win in the Sam Milanovich Classic at Scott Gymnasium.

The Blue Hawks had an off night, shooting just 33 percent from the field and was 7 of 21 from the 3-point line.

“We just didn’t handle the adversity,” DSU coach Guy Fridley said. “We hadn’t been in that position yet.”

Herbel finished with a game-high 14 points to go along with six rebounds. Moore scored 12 points and was 4 of 6 from behind the 3-point line.

The Blue Hawks start conference play Saturday, December 6th when they travel to Minot State University.
