Blue Hawks Receive North Dakota's Highest Honor for a Team

The Dickinson State Blue Hawk softball team was honored for the second straight season the highest collegiate award in the state of North Dakota. The Blue Hawks were selected as the NDAPSSA “College Female Team of the Year”. This is an annual award which the Hawks took home last year as well. The Blue Hawks finished their most memorable season to date in there storied history. They finished the season 39-9, won the DAC regular and tournament titles, and capped off there season with the best finish in school history at the NAIA national tournament in Decatur, AL where they finished in the final six in the nation.

Side note: Sara Jane Webster was one of four finalists for the NDAPSSA “College Female Athlete of the Year”.

“This is a very special award that we are very honored and humbled to receive. Our team accomplished many things this season and it was a very exciting run that we went on. I just can’t wait to start up in the fall again.” Stated Coach Fridley

Post season honors keep pouring in for the Blue Hawk Softball Team. The National Fastpitch Coaches Association today announced their Louisville Slugger All Region, All American, and Regional Coaching Staff of the Year. Three Blue Hawks were honored.

Pitcher Sara Jane Webster was tabbed to the First Team All Region and All American teams; Nicole Marcoux was named to the First Team All Region and Second Team All American Teams; and Kelly Jahn was named to the Second Team All Region Team. Along with those three the Dickinson State coaching staff led by Coach Guy Fridley was named the Southwest Regional Coaching Staff of the Year.

The Blue Hawks finished the year 39-10, won their third straight Dakota Athletic Conference Title, and advanced further than any team in school history at the NAIA National Softball Tournament.

Webster, Marcoux Named NAIA All Americans
May-22-08

Sara Jane Webster and Nicole Marcoux have been named to the NAIA All-American Second Team. They are the fifth and sixth players in school history to receive All-American honors.

Webster finished the season with a 25-5 on the season with a 1.40 ERA. Sara Jane shattered the school record for strikeouts in a season and ended the year with 249 K’s. She also holds DSU’s single game strikeout record with 15.

Marcoux earned All-American honors by hitting .488, eight homeruns, 39 RBI’s, boasted a .818 slugging percentage and she hit 18 doubles. For most the season, Marcoux was in the top five in the nation in batting average.

“This is a great accomplishment for these two. The both put together a great year and deserved this honor. I am extremely proud of both of them.” stated Coach Fridley.
