Foundation sets funding opportunities

Your help is needed to reach these goals listed below.  Donations to the Foundation are tax deductible and there are many ways to give.  Naming opportunities are available and memorials or honorariums are a great way to pay tribute to a special person.  Contact the Alumni and Foundation House at 701-483-2004 to explore your options.

Student Scholarship Programs

Theodore Roosevelt Honors Leadership Program
Objective: To recruit and retain top academic students to Dickinson State University.  Each scholar receives a $2,500 scholarship per year, which is renewable for up to five years. 
*Goal:To fund 90 scholars during the 2008-2009 academic year at a total of $225,000.    

Cultural Enrichment Program and Enhancement Scholarships
Objective:  Recruit and retain students in art, music and theatre/speech. 
*Goal:  The goal is to fund $15,000 per year per program at a total of $45,000.   

E-Scholars Angel
Objective:  To provide funding and support for the development of the new E-Scholars Program.  Each Angel sponsor at $2,500 will be a mentor to the E-Scholar students as they create their business venture in addition to providing financial support to the student. 
Goal:  The goal is to raise $20,000 through eight (8) Angel sponsors.    

American Indian Scholarships
Objective: To increase scholarship funding to American Indian students through the American Indian Education Foundation Challenge Grant Program.  This grant program provides a dollar-for-dollar match to all of our fundraising for the American Indian Scholarship Program up to $10,000 per donor. 
Goal:  To raise private gifts of $10,000 per year to maximize the challenge grant that would enable the University to award $20,000 per year to Native American students. 

International Student Scholarship Fund
Objective:  To recruit and retain top international students to Dickinson State University. 
Goal:  The goal is to raise $15,000. 

Athletic Scholarships
Objective:  To recruit and retain top student-athletes that will allow the University to maintain its highly competitive athletic program.  This is a collaborative objective between the Foundation and the Blue Hawk Booster Club.
Goal:  The goal is to raise $170,000 this year.  

Capital Construction

Badlands Activities Center (Whitney Stadium Renovation) 
Objective:  To renovate and expand Whitney Stadium into the most modern outdoor athletic venue for the region.  This includes a modernized track and field; artificial turf football field, expanded seating and press box and the construction of a new locker room facility.  
Goal:  The goal for the renovation is estimated at more than $15 million.  

Science Equipment for Murphy Hall
Objective:   To provide the latest in science equipment to compliment the renovation and expansion of Murphy Hall as it is transformed into the most modern natural science facility in the region.   This initiative will also provide technology funding to allow students and faculty research in the department of natural science.
Goal:  The goal is raise $150,000 to provide funding for the latest science technology for Murphy Hall. 

Astronomy Observatory
Objective:  To construct a state of the art astronomy observatory for the Dickinson State University campus.  This observatory will create a new educational component to the science curriculum for all the students at Dickinson State.  The facility will allow the science faculty to provide outreach programs for the regions K-12 through adult populations. 
Goal:  To raise $150,000 for the construction and development of the observatory. 

Alumni/Foundation House
Objective:  To assist with additional enhancements and the creation of an endowment for the benefit of the Alumni and Foundation House.  This facility is the natural stop for alumni and friends as they return to campus. 
Goal:  The goal is to raise an additional $300,000 for enhancements to the facility. 
 

University Enhancements

Technology Enhancements
Objective:  To provide up to date technology, to provide our faculty with the most modern portable technology that will allow enhanced learning opportunities for our students.
Goal:  The goal is to raise $25,000 to assist with technology enhancements.  

Mini-grant Competitions
Objective:  To encourage student/faculty creativity and innovation to enhance the learning process.
*Goal:  The goal is to fund $10,000 per year.

Faculty/Staff Recognition
Objective:  To provide annual awards that recognizes top faculty and staff for their commitment to quality for the benefit of the students at Dickinson State University.  Awards are annually presented to the Distinguished and Innovative Teacher of Year; Outstanding Teachers in the two colleges, a Faculty/Staff research award, adjunct faculty of the year along with three staff awards. 
*Goal:  The goal is to fund $9,500 per year. 

Theodore Roosevelt Symposium
Objective:  To provide a symposium to celebrate the active life of the 26th President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt:  The Adventurer.  The Roosevelt Symposium will involve national scholars from across the country to discuss the life and times of TR as the Adventurer. 
*Goal:  The goal is to fund $15,000.

Everett Albers Lecture Series
Objective:  To provide funding for the annual lecture series named in honor of the late Everett Albers, a 1966 graduate of Dickinson State, which pays tribute to his extensive work in the humanities.  The Everett Albers Lecture Series will involve University students, faculty, staff, as well as the general public working together to discuss the important role of the humanities within our society.
Goal:  The goal is to fund $10,000 annually for this event.  

History Scholar
Objective:  To partner in the funding of a History Scholar with Dickinson State University and the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation.
Goal:  The goal is to provide support of $10,000.

Senior Research Incubator
Objective: To create a position between partnering entities, the Center for Entrepreneurship and Hawks Point,
that will be responsible for the research and development of products and services that will benefit the senior population. 
Goal:  To secure $50,000 to fund the position.
