About
The TR Honors Leadership Program The aim of a liberal arts education is to equip persons to be good leaders within the community. Good leaders are life-long learners who, as Teddy Roosevelt might put it, "Do the best they can, with what they've got, where they are." This unique honors leadership program is inspired by President Roosevelt, and how his character was formed while ranching and leading the "strenuous life" near Medora, North Dakota during the 1880s. Roosevelt once said, "Had it not been for the years spent in North Dakota, and what I learned here, I would not have become President of the United States." In that spirit, the TR Program experience combines elements of Servant-Leadership, Principle-Centered Leadership, Level 5 Leadership, global leadership and civic leadership.
The TR Program is student-driven (to maximize opportunities to apply what one is learning in the classroom), instills participative decision making, and collaborative problem solving techniques with intellectual rigor and character development. All freshmen accepted to the TR Program receive a generous scholarship, currently valued at $2,500 per academic year. The scholarships are renewable for up to five consecutive years. International students are eligible for $600 per year in addition to the Global Awareness Initiative Scholarship. Native American students are invited to apply for a Cultural Diversity tuition waiver in addition to the TR Program Scholarship. All TR Scholars must meet a number of requirements each semester to demonstrate satisfactory progress. They must follow the general academic policies, maintain honors status and follow a particular course of study to be part of the TR program.
